Louisiana's Promise Dropout Summit

The Picard Center partnered with Louisiana’s Promise, Education’s Next Horizon and the Louisiana Department of Education to host statewide and regional dropout summits to critically examine the widespread high school dropout problem in Louisiana by examining available data. The Picard Center provided each of Louisiana’s 70 school districts with detailed Dropout Profiles outlining dropout trends at the local and state levels. These data profiles also contained information about characteristics of middle- and high-school dropouts and possible reasons for students dropping out of school.
After facilitating regional breakout sessions where community, school and industry leaders worked together to find local solutions to address the crisis, the Picard Center provided districts with tool kits that contained a listing of dropout prevention programs that have proven successful in other states. The tool kit recommendations were organized so that each district could find successful programs tailored to its specific dropout situation.
The Picard Center continues to follow regional and district-level dropout initiatives to drive data-based decision making, evaluate progress and make policy recommendations.
